A brief overview about the first president of the united states。

This was an easy book to read and is a great way to introduce George Washington to elementary students。 It gives the information that is necessary to know when learning about him and why he was so important。 It goes from him as a young child to him as the first president。 I read this with my 10 year old who loves history and learning about people in history。 He enjoyed it even though he already knew everything that the book talked about haha。

Wow! After finishing this book, I really feel like I know a lot about President Washington! This is my first experience with the "Who Was。。。" series and I can safely say that I am well-impressed。 The book was simply told, but really hit on all the important details about Washington's life。 It paints a clear and powerful picture of the president and even fills in some of the historical context with little "articles" scattered throughout。This book was perfect for middle-grade readers who want to l Wow! Good short informational book for children about George Washington。

My son and I enjoyed learning about George Washington。 The chapters are short and to the point。 The words are easy enough for him to follow along and the chapters are full of useful information。

I learned a lot。 This explained the founding of our country and George Washington's part in it in a way that kids could understand it。 The author even sometimes defined big words that kids might not be familiar with。 I learned a lot。 This explained the founding of our country and George Washington's part in it in a way that kids could understand it。 The author even sometimes defined big words that kids might not be familiar with。 。。。more

The book Who Was George Washington? is a biograpghy written by Roberta Edwards。 The book was published in 2009。 I first read this book when I was in elementary class for a president project。 This book was perfect because it is short and straight to the point for kids, that is why I rated it 4 stars。 As an adult I rather read these to learn about people than any other books。 It provides all the necessary details need to really know who George Washington was。 It is intended for readers between the The book Who Was George Washington? is a biograpghy written by Roberta Edwards。 The book was published in 2009。 I first read this book when I was in elementary class for a president project。 This book was perfect because it is short and straight to the point for kids, that is why I rated it 4 stars。 As an adult I rather read these to learn about people than any other books。 It provides all the necessary details need to really know who George Washington was。 It is intended for readers between the ages of 8 and 12。 The book just sums up Washington's life and tells you who he was as a person。 I would defiantly recommend this for kids if they ever need to research someone。 。。。more

I think this teached me a lot and i learned how he made his attacks and how historical his story was and his journeys。

Chopping the cherry tree was a myth made up after his death。 The wooden teeth are also not true, apparently they were made of ivory。 He was a surveyor (which is really cool), a soldier (serving with both American militia men and the British army), and he loved his home at Mount Vernon。 He lead the American military forces during the Revolutionary War and face many challenges。 When elected President he didn’t want anybody to call him anything that reflected being a King。 So he told people to call Chopping the cherry tree was a myth made up after his death。 The wooden teeth are also not true, apparently they were made of ivory。 He was a surveyor (which is really cool), a soldier (serving with both American militia men and the British army), and he loved his home at Mount Vernon。 He lead the American military forces during the Revolutionary War and face many challenges。 When elected President he didn’t want anybody to call him anything that reflected being a King。 So he told people to call him Mr。 President。 Washington was a man who didn’t really want to be President and therefore made him the best pick for the job。 He willingly chose to step down from power, which is something most people would never do。 I wish there were more men like him! 。。。more

Read this to the kids as we prepared to see Mt Vernon。 It was a very basic overview of Washington’s life, but great for kids。 They were excited to hear/read that his dentures were at the museum and they got to see them。

Very quick and informative。 Very digestible for those with an interest in history but for nothing too dry。 Would read more from the series。

I read this book with my second graders as they have become interested in the presidents。 This is a suggested fifth grade level book。 This book as a lot of interesting facts about his younger years and his family。 My students liked learning about his life。

Dan

This was a good summary of the life of George Washington and was a fast read。

I gave this book three stars because I do think it is a good book, however it could have been better。 Some of the information in it kind of contradicts what I thought I knew about George Washington。 Overall it was an okay book, in a classroom I think I would steer to a different book when learning about him。

Genre: Biography Age: 3rd-7thThis book is similar to the others I have read, but it does a fantastic job of giving us insight into a president's life! I really like the pictures throughout the book because it makes this chapter book a little less daunting。 I think it would fun to assign students to different presidents and have each of them read one of these books。 Overall, I loved the rich history that was included in this book。 Genre: Biography Age: 3rd-7thThis book is similar to the others I have read, but it does a fantastic job of giving us insight into a president's life! Biography3rd-5th grade reading levelThis book tells the story of George Washington as a non fiction biography。 I love the way that this book can effectively tell about George Washington in a way that is still fun and engaging for students to and can get them excited about history。 I thought this book was great and gave a lot of useful and important information about George Washington, and that it would be great for young readers。

Christine

Read with the kids to go along with history lessons。 It was fine。

I really like the WhoHQ books (which is good, because I'm reading a bunch of them this month)。 One thing I really like is that they don't hide truths from children。 When presenting George Washington, they didn't make him larger-than-life (which is the image I was always taught), but instead showed a man who was willing to try, even though he didn't know how。 WhoHQ also talked about some of the negative aspects of his life and life at that time, like slaves and how he owned them。 I am really impr I really like the WhoHQ books (which is good, because I'm reading a bunch of them this month)。 One thing I really like is that they don't hide truths from children。 When presenting George Washington, they didn't make him larger-than-life (which is the image I was always taught), but instead showed a man who was willing to try, even though he didn't know how。 WhoHQ also talked about some of the negative aspects of his life and life at that time, like slaves and how he owned them。 I am really impressed with this series and how it presents information。 。。。more

Evelyn and I thought this was a good book。 Evelyn liked the parts about how much he loved animals。 There were a lot of good stories about George Washington。 I liked that it showed that he was human too, not perfect like we are often presented。

Another interesting Who Was book。 Ending was a little rushed and could have provided more information。 I like how these books help kids learn history while keeping them interested。 I am trying to read every one of these books to my kids。

Part of a really great series that I'm reading with my girls。 I'm adding it to my reads for the year, because it takes about an hour and half and to finish out loud。 So far, I'm happy with the amount of information and discussion we can have from it。 Part of a really great series that I'm reading with my girls。 I'm adding it to my reads for the year, because it takes about an hour and half and to finish out loud。 So far, I'm happy with the amount of information and discussion we can have from it。 。。。more

This is another cool nonfiction book。 This whole series I think is great to have as a teacher because they always cover very prominent people in the history of people。 These are always pretty interesting and I always learn something new from this series。

I learned nothing new here, but I enjoy the format of this series so I'm keeping it starless。 If you know nothing of Washington, you'll probably learn a bit。 I learned nothing new here, but I enjoy the format of this series so I'm keeping it starless。 If you know nothing of Washington, you'll probably learn a bit。 。。。more
